The police in Papua New Guinea are to receive an across-the-board pay increase following the signing of a memorandum of agreement.
The agreement, signed by the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary, the Labour Department and Department of Personnel Management, will benefit 5,200 police personnel nationwide including commissioned and non-commissioned officers.
The pay increase became effective on July the 1st this year.
The newspaper, The National, reports that the president of the PNG Police Association, Robert Ali, thanked the government for recognising the importance of their duties and their services.
The Police Commissioner, Sam Inguba, assured the government and the general public that there would be a marked improvement in the performance of the police force.
