The Solomon Islands government is continuing work on the reform of the constitution.
A team has been appointed by the prime minister, Manasseh Sogavare, to rethink the current constitution and to promote greater decentralisation.
There have been a series of consultations, funded by the UNDP, about what's needed after calls from the provinces for a move to a federal system.
The UNDP's Bill Pryor says teams were sent out to survey people in all nine provinces in 2001/2 but the next step is now needed.
"We've gotten to the point where there's a massive body of information from the rural areas, so people are saying enough with the consultation, what's the next step? It may be that the next step doesn't need to be a new constitution but at this point, there needs to a national decision, a step forward."
