Samoa's Central Bank Governor has warned locals about scams that could cost people thousands of dollars.

The bank's governor, Leasi Papalii Scanlan, said all letters and correspondences offering commissions on uncollected millions of dollars are nothing but scams.

He says it's the same with lotto winnings from Europe or South Africa which are posted out using all kinds of variations.

Leasi said that despite several warnings in the past, there have been many reports of local people being taken in by the scammers.

But he also warns it is a breach of the prevailing regulations to send monies offshore as payment for these illegal financial activities.
