Samoa Housing Corporation seeking to use NZ debt collector to recoup unpaid loans

10:22 am on 26 July 2006

The chief executive of the Samoa Housing Corporation is awaiting an email response from a representative of New Zealand's BayCorp debt collecting company on how the corporation can get access to its services.

The CEO was contacted for confirmation after the company refuted reports of being approached by the corporation for assistance in collecting thousands of dollars in unpaid loans.

The chief executive Mata'utia Rula Levi, said yesterday she's waiting for a response from BayCorp before making an official approach.

Several Samoans who are now residing permanently in New Zealand under the Immigration quota scheme have been blamed for making loan guarantors suffer by having to pay back the borrowers loan arrears.

The move by the Housing Corporation has come after the Prime Minister told parliament about legal actions against borrowers in order to recover funds.
