Forum boss Urwin hopes for second term

The secretary general of the Pacific Islands Forum, Greg Urwin, says he is keen to have a second term in the role.

Mr Urwin, a former Australian diplomat, was controversially selected at the Forum summit in Auckland three years ago, with some Pacific leaders suggesting that the job should only be filled by a Pacific Islander.

That appointment finishes later this year, but Mr Urwin, who has overseen the development of the Forum's grand scheme for the region, the Pacific Plan, says he would like to continue.

"If it is the leaders' wish that I continue on for some time then I am quite happy to do that. So it is now a question that is in the leaders' hands and of course they will make a decision about that at their forthcoming meeting."
