Calls for a review of American Samoa's judicial branch

11:41 am on 27 June 2006

American Samoa's Congressman Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin is forging ahead with his plan to request a comprehensive review of the Judicial Branch of American Samoa.

The congressman says the review would address ways that the court system can be improved to better serve the territory.

The Governor Togiola Tulafono has spoken out publicly against a review of the local bench.

But Faleomavaega says one is very much needed.

"We really do need to have a comprehensive review of the entire judiciary system, this has never been done. And, I am in current consultation with the chairman of the resources committee and we both agree, and I'm preparing a draft letter right now in the process that we have a GAO comprehensive review of the entire judiciary system of the territory."
