Fiji cabinet minister pledges salary to constituency

A Fiji cabinet minister, Rajesh Singh, has told parliament he will spend his salary on his constituency.

The Minister for Youth and Sports says he will fund projects in his Cunningham Open constituency, a heavily populated area on the outskirts of the capital, Suva.

Fiji Live reports that Mr Singh is pledging his allowances and salary to fund the construction of bus shelters and approval from the city council is being sought.

A minister's package amounts to 62,500 Fiji dollars or 35,800 US dollars.

Mr Singh has also pledged to find employment for youths in his constituency.
