Fiji's Methodist Church is demanding a seat on the country's Film Censorship Board.
The demand has come in a petition to the government handed in after a protest march through the streets of Suva against the movie, The Da Vinci Code, during which the Village 6 cinema was forced to close for security reasons.
The assistant general secretary of the church, the Rev Tuikilakila Waqairatu, says they must have a representative on the Censorship Board to protect the Christian faith from any such films in the future.
He said the protest march was "to demonstrate their faith in front of the instruments of evil in society."
The church petition was given to the minister for home affairs, Josefa Vosanibola, who said he would take the matter up with the prime minister.
The management of Village Six cinema in Suva and Village Four in Lautoka stopped the screening of the movie from yesterday morning even before the protest march took place.
