Arrest warrants for Tonga MP Pohiva

1:45 pm on 1 June 2006

Two warrants of arrest have been put out for Tonga's pro democracy leader, Akilisi Pohiva.

Radio Tonga reports that Mr Pohiva is wanted for failing to obey court orders.

Mr Pohiva appeared in court on May the 22nd on a sedition charge and was bailed.

One of the bail conditions was to surrender his passport but he has failed to comply.

The deputy police commander, Kainga Hia, has now reportedly called for his arrest.

The report also says Mr Pohiva has failed to appear before the magistrate in another case at the start of this week.
