American Samoa governor reiterates backing for McDonalds restaurant

The American Samoa Governor Togiola Tulafono has reiterated his support for the McDonald's chain building a restaurant on Utulei Beach.

The plan has sparked controversy because the area is designated a park area and has previously had substantial funding from the National Park Service. .

But the governor says he has approved the McDonald's lease because it will help boost activity in an area which he says is practically dead in the evenings.

Togiola says he also has plans to attract other business to Utulei beach.
