The French Pacific territory of Wallis and Futuna has acknowledged that it has missed out on most of the disbursements of the European Union's Development Fund.

Local television says the territory missed out on 800,000 US dollars to pay for various projects in agriculture and infrastructure.

The issue was raised during the meeting of Wallis and Futuna's territorial council, prompting much disappointment from some members.

The French authorities were reported as saying it was the result of unfortunate circumstances.
