Fiji's military has cancelled all leave for its troops and recalled them to camp to prepare them for general elections which start in eight days.
A military spokesman, Captain Neumi Leweni, has told Radio Legend the army has a role to play in the elections and the troops will be on standby in case their services are needed.
Captain Leweni has also confirmed that 500 territorial force soldiers have been ordered to report to camp for training during the election period, although he adds that the training dates were scheduled well before the elections were announced.
Captain Leweni says the soldiers may also stage a march through the streets of Suva if the military commander decides to have a parade as part of the training.
A similar mach by troops in full combat gear led by Commodore Bainimarama last month generated criticism from the government which said it was intimidating.
