Bodies of Fijians killed in Iraq to be flown home

10:45 am on 25 April 2006

The bodies of four Fijian security guards killed in an ambush in Iraq over Easter will be flown home this week.

Fiji caretaker Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase says he was saddened at the tragedy but the men's deaths in helping a war-torn country wouldn't be in vain.

The fatalities bring to at least a dozen the number of Fijians killed in the Iraq war.

About 3,000 Fijians are estimated to be in Iraq either as soldiers with the British and Fiji armies or in private work.
