American Samoan soldier critically wounded in Iraq bomb attack

An American Samoan soldier has been critically injured in the war in Iraq.

Staff Sergeant Pio Paau Junior suffered severe burns in a bomb attack on his armoured vehicle in Baghdad.

He has been transported to Germany and is to be flown to a specialist clinic in Texas.

So far seven American Samoans have died in the Iraq war.

Current and former US possessions in the Pacific have the highest participation and casualty rate of American forces in Iraq.
