Fiji's military commander has rejected comments by the prime minister that bad relations between the army and government are the result of the incorrect interpretation of the constitution by the force.
The Fiji Sun quotes Commodore Bainimarama as saying such statements are nonsensical.
Commodore Bainimarama says the misunderstanding between the government and the military has developed because some people don't want the military to educate the people about the events of May 2000 when the last coup took place.
He says the military wants to tell the people that those events were wrong.
Commodore Bainimarama says the people who marched into parliament in May 2000 have not changed and the military's message is directed to the people in the villages who need to be made to understand that that the events of May 2000 were wrong.
He says the misunderstanding between the military and the government has nothing to do with the constitution, and its interpretation by a group from New Zealand is different.
