An MP from the highlands region in Papua New Guinea is about to be sued for more than 160,000 US dollars by a woman who claims to have his baby.

The newspaper, The National, says a 20-year-old woman has filed the claim in the Waigani National Court, and the MP has engaged a high profile law firm in the city to defend him.

According to court documents, the MP allegedly had a sexual relationship with the woman who was living with her sister in the same house the MP was residing in.

The documents said during several outings, including lunch dates, the MP told her that he wanted a child from her because his wife was barren.
