4:47 pm on 17 March 2006

French Polynesia's President, Oscar Temaru, is to spend a week in New Zealand.

His office says he is to attend the official opening of a Polynesian sports and culture festival in Ngaruawahia near Hamilton.

He was invited by the Maori Queen, Te Arikinui Dame Te Atairangikaahu.

Early next week, Temaru's office said he is to hold a number of meetings with a number of unspecified business and political personalities.
