Palau is tabling a challenge to other countries in a bid to encourage sustainable conservation across the globe.
The Micronesia challenge was first issued by Palau's president to other regional countries last year.
Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, the Marshall Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia have all signed up.
Joel Miles of Palau's office of response and coordination says the challenge is to see at least 30 percent of natural marine and 20 percent of forest resources under effective marine conservation by the year 2020.
"And it has been taken up and now its become a challenge from all over Micronesia to the rest of the world, and he'll be taking this to all the parties of the CBD and presenting the challenge at a dinner even there."
Mr Miles says it will be tabled during the eighth conference of parties to the conventions of biodiversity or CBD which begins in Brazil next week.
