PNG coffee exports hit by flood damage

Papua New Guinea may lose out on more than 3 million US dollars from coffee exports this month due to flood damage on the Highlands Highway.

The chairman of the PNG Coffee Exporters Council John Edwards said statistics from major coffee exporters showed that up to 50 containers of coffee valued at more than one million US dollars are stranded in the highlands.

The La Nina weather pattern is affecting the highlands region causing mud slips and flood to ruin sections of the road.

Mr Edwards told the National newspaper he is urging the Government to remedy the situation.
