Yap safety problems affect airport fuel supply

Safety and environmental issues have forced the Federated States of Micronesia's Yap International Airport's only jet fuel supplier to discontinue its delivery of fuel.

Mobil Oil Guam says an inspection conducted at Yap Airport discovered a shifting of the concrete aprons and posed a potential threat to the integrity of the jet fuel delivery pipelines.

Cecile Bamba Suda, who is Mobil Guam's public relations manager, says Mobil will not resume sales and delivery of its jet fuel to the airport until the aprons, which is where the airplanes are parked, are properly repaired.

The Pacific Magazine reports that Mobil is waiting for an update from the Yap government on the condition of the aprons and when repairs are expected to be completed
