Taiwan not meddling in election, says Solomons PM

10:39 am on 11 March 2006

The Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Sir Allan Kemakeza, says accusations that Taiwan is interfering in the election are unfounded.

The Labour Party Wing Leader, Joses Tuhanuku has accused the Taiwanese diplomatic mission in the country of meddling in Solomon Islands politics.

But Sir Allan told the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation that Taiwanese applications to fund projects had to go through his office.

Sir Allan says Mr Tuhanuku should explain to his constituents how he had spent more than a million dollars from funds provided by Taiwan for development initiatives in Rennell and Bellona.
