Solomon Islands to import Fiji sheep

The National Agriculture Council in Solomon Islands is planning to import sheep from Fiji for breeding purposes.

The Council has outlined at its first meeting of the year that it will bring 100 sheep of the Fantastic breed, which is seen as ideal for Solomon Islands after Fiji had earlier successfully exported it to Samoa and Tonga.

The breed is easy to raise, has a shorter weaning period and can be farmed under plantation trees.

The Council also plans cattle breeding this year, once supporting infrastructure and cattle fences around the country are repaired.
