Police in the Vanuatu town of Luganville say they've received no reports of injuries or of major damage following yesterday's 6.2 earthquake.
The U.S. Geological Service says the quake was centred about 80 kilometres northeast of Luganville, which is on the island of Espiritu Santo.
An officer at Luganville police station, Amos Solip, says the tremor was a strong one and lasted for over a minute.
And, he says locals were concerned when it hit.
"A lot of people had to run out of the buildings yesterday afternoon, but lucky it came in when most of the offices were closed after half past four."
Amos Solip says earthquakes are very common in the country.
