In Samoa, a high chief of Falealupo, Vaai Solia Papu, was shot at when he was attending a family meeting at Falealupo village on Savaii island yesterday afternoon.
Media reports from Apia say Vaai was shot at from the back by a gunman hiding in bushes next to his house.
He was injured on the back of his neck.
He was flown to Motootua hospital yesterday evening and is reported to be fully conscious and alert.
