Solomon Islands nominee to do stocktake of her constituency

7:15 pm on 1 March 2006

The campaigning for next month's elections in Solomon Islands has started.

And, one of the first to register to stand as a candidate, Sarah Dyer, says she would like to see more job opportunities created for people.

She says she will be doing a stocktake of her constituency in West Honiara, going door to door, to see what priorities families and households want their MPs to focus on.

Ms Dyer says after years of unrest, the country is now in its rebuilding phase.

"We are starting to recover from what we've gone through in the last four to five years but then we want job opportunities, we want a lot of improvement for the country here. You know, to keep our Solomon Islanders here and to be proud to be Solomon Islanders."

Ms Dyer says she will be standing as an independent.
