Motive established for Northern Marianas multiple murders

Police in the Northern Marianas have established a motive for the worst homicide case in the commonwealth's history.

Last week three people were murdered in San Antonio and the suspect, Nan Guang Xi, was shot dead at the scene.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau Chief, Major Edward Manalili, says evidence seems to indicate that the killings were the result of a robbery gone wrong.

"Prior to the homicide, one of the victims who is a manager of several establishments, had collected some cash from an establishment. At the scene investigators found an empty cash-bag and on the suspect we found some cash on him and some other indications that the money had come from the money-bag."

Major Manalili says the three victims were Korean and died as a result of multiple stab wounds while the suspect was Chinese.

Police say they don't believe the crime was as a result of links with ethnic gangs.
