Fresh delays hit Niue hospital opening

Niue's new hospital isn't expected to open for at least another two months.

The premier Young Vivian recently said he expected the facility to be up and running by the end of this month, but a source says equipment hasn't been moved into the hospital.

The island's been without surgical services since Cyclone Heta destroyed the old hospital more than two years ago.

New Zealand then gave Niue at least 14 million US dollars as part of a revised aid package to the freely-associated nation.

Officials say the New Zealand foreign minister Winston Peters' first Pacific tour is likely to include a Niue visit next week, where he's likely to talk about ongoing financial assistance for the island.
