Solomon's Governor General says peace and security led to gains in 2005

Governor General of Solomon Islands has used his New Year address to praise those involved in the improvement of education and health in 2005.

In his new year's message broadcast nationally by the Solomon islands Broadcasting Corporation, Sir Nathaniel said the gains made last year were a significant improvement on those of the year before.

He attributed the progress to good public finance management, the rule of law and order and a feeling of being secure

The Governor General also praised leaders in the country for helping to make Solomon Islands peaceful and harmonious

Sir Nathaniel said an increased production of cocoa and copra last year was the result of security provided by the Police and the regional assistance mission
