PNG Security Council set to rule on Fiji ex-soldiers' work

Three former Fiji commandoes who've been giving military training on Bougainville are expected to remain in Papua New Guinea until Tuesday when a decision will be made about charges.

The PNG National Security Advisory Council met for nearly six hours yesterday to decide the fate of the alleged ringleaders accused of breaching immigration law through their work in the province.

A diplomat involved in the case says the three men, understood to include Freddy Rokodi and Sam Baroi, will either be told to leave voluntarily or be deported.

They face being classified as prohibited immigrants-meaning they're forbidden from entering PNG for the next five years.

There's still no word on five Fijian ex-soldiers still in Bougainville, where telephone contact couldn't be established with the provincial government.
