Papua New Guinea nurses start returning to work after four days of strike action

Nurses around Papua New Guinea who walked off the job on Monday, have started returning to work.

The nurses went on strike principally in protest at the way the government had implemented a wage deal negotiated five years ago.

But as Port Moresby General Hospital's Chief Executive, Alphonse Tay, says there has been a general agreement that the matter will go to arbitration as soon as the workers return.

"The department of personal management has agreed to address long outstanding issues. They actually went on strike because they wanted the 2000 agreement to be reviewed and that will be done and also some other issues they brought up."
