Funding boost for medical care payments in US Pacific territories

2:07 pm on 22 December 2005

American Samoa's Congressman Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin says new legislation will significantly increase Medicaid payments for the US territories.

The Congressman says American Samoa will receive an increase of two million US dollars for fiscal year 2006 and four million for 2007.

This would be on top of the current base funding of four million per year.

Guam will receive an increase of two point five million for 2006 and five million for 2007.

CNMI will receive an increase of one million for 2006 and two million for 2007.

There are some differences in the House and Senate versions of the bill but funding for the territories would be intact in the final bill that is still to be signed into law by President Bush.
