Lieutenant Colonel Arthur Caulton has been removed as Vanuatu's Acting Commissioner of Police by the Police Services Commission.

The Daily Post reports that he has been replaced by Major Kalshem Bongran who was a Company Commander in the Mobile Force and promoted to Major only last year.

Major Bongran's appointment is on a temporary basis until the vacancy is filled after advertisements are finally run overseas.

No reason has been given by the Police Commission on why they decided to remove Major Caulton who says he is challenging the decision to remove him in court.

However, senior members of the force are reportedly unhappy at the appointment of the new Commissioner over more experienced officers.
