The University of the South Pacific has unveiled plans to establish its first north Pacific campus in the Marshall Islands.
The new campus, estimated to cost about six million US dollars, is
awaiting confirmation of a site and funding from the Marshall Islands
government.
The USP has pledged to fund the operation of a new campus once it is built.
The University's Vice Chancellor Anthony Tarr has been in Marshall Islands this week for meetings with the President, Kessai Note, and other officials.
Professor Tarr says the USP will develop detailed architectural designs for the campus by the end of March next year.
He said it's up to the government to identify the site and funding for
construction, but the USP is committed to running the new campus.
The goal is to have about 80 percent of the USP courses available to students at the new campus, through a combination of
face-to-face teaching and distance learning courses.
