Samoa sharpens fight against drug ice

8:58 pm on 16 November 2005

Authorities in Samoa are cracking down on the use of the drug, methamphetamine.

The Samoa Observer reports that the investigations involve the Police, the Transnational Crimes Unit and the Attorney General's Office.

The newspaper quotes sources saying that some of the suspected dealers and users of methamphetamine are well known in Samoa.

Samoa's first methamphetamine case involved a 43-year old man arrested last year, but yet to go to court.

There are suspicions that the methamphetamine trade in Samoa is linked to American Samoa, where last month there were four busts involving the drug.
