A Seattle-based business group which wants to start commercial fishing in the Northern Marianas says it will hire local residents and offer them what it calls very high wages.

The Saipan Tribune newspaper reports the company Lady Kimberly intends to hire personnel for the fish processing plant and logistics.

Two long-line fishing vessels would be brought from the US state of Alabama to the Northern Mariana islands for the venture.

Two US government departments have recently produced a study suggesting great potential for fishing in CNMI waters.
