Cook television stays on air as threat is lifted

2:39 pm on 14 November 2005

The head of Cook Islands Television says a threat to cut off power to one of several television transmitters around Rarotonga has been withdrawn.

Last week, the TV station's head, George Pitt, said it was at risk of not being able to broadcast over a disagreement with the Secretary of Internal Affairs, Rairi Rairi.

At stake were differences over the payment of power bills and Mr Rairi's objection to some information in the station's sister publication, the Cook Islands Herald.

But correspondents say the signal has not been cut.
