A senior government official in Solomon Islands says change is underway to ensure an efficient and skilled public service.
The Permanent Secretary of the Public Service Department, Fred Ganate, says a new recruitment strategy includes processes that are easy to understand, fair and much more transparent to the public than they have been in the past.
He told the Solomons Broadcasting Corporation that unless advertising reached people in the provinces and those studying and working overseas, the system was failing Solomon Islanders.
Mr Ganate says the government wants to recruit the best people from around the country, based on merit.
