The High Court in American Samoa has approved an out-of-court settlement totalling US$140,000 for the death of a three-year-old girl at the LBJ Hospital in 2002.

The family of Keolani Lemyia Jenkins had filed a US$2m lawsuit against the LBJ Hospital and the government in 2003.

The family claimed that the child died because of neglect by the doctors who saw the infant but did not admit her.

The Assistant Attorney General, David Cassetty, says the agreement has been submitted to the Governor's Office and an appropriation bill would be sent to the legislature.
