A Papua New Guinea politician has warned that PNG's close ties with Australia may attract terrorist attacks.

The Morobe Governor, Luther Wenge, issued the warning in response to the latest bombing in Bali.

Speaking in Lae, Mr Wenge says Australia, Britain and the United States are nations targeted by Islamic extremists and any nation like PNG that aligns itself with them, may face similar incidences.

He has urged the government and its agencies to be more cautious in dealing with Australia in light of this security risk.

Mr Wenge said though these countries are friends of PNG relevant authorities must ensure the country's security and sovereignty was protected at all times.
