5:04 pm on 11 October 2005

The body of Samoa's opposition MP, Tofa Su'a Atonio Lemi, who was killed in New Zealand last week, has arrived in Apia.

A short service was held upon the body's arrival at the Faleolo airport chapel.

Tomorrow, opposition MP's will hold a service at the funeral home, where his body will lie until his funeral on Saturday.

His burial will take place at Samusu village in Aleipata.

The editor of the Samoa Observer newspaper, Savea Sano Malifa, says it is uncertain whether the MP will get a state funeral.

"The protocol started I think with the Prime Minister and his Cabinet coming over to the airport to see his body arrive and hold a service there. Also for the funeral I understand the cabinet will be involved, and also the opposition."

A 47-year old man, who was granted name suppression, has been charged with Tofa Su'a's murder and is expected to appear in the Manukau District court tomorrow.
