Papua New Guinea's deputy head of mission at the High Commission in Australia has been recalled.

The newspaper, The National, reports that Jackson Yuasise was recalled from Canberra two weeks ago following a confrontation with the high commissioner Charles Lepani, allegations of assault on an academic and bad behaviour towards colleagues at functions.

The deputy foreign affairs secretary Tarcy Eri has confirmed the recall on serious disciplinary matters but declined to elaborate further.

Earlier this year, another PNG diplomat was recalled.

The High Commissioner to Fiji, Alexis Maino, was made to return home on disciplinary grounds.
