Fiji telecommunication rates drop by up to 70 percent

Telecommunication rates in Fiji have been lowered by up to 70 percent as of today.

This comes a month after the Fiji's Commerce Commission directed that new reduced rates were to come into effect.

All telecommunication companies are now reducing their rates for national, long distance, mobile, internet and overseas calls.

Vodafone's managing director Aslam Khan says Vodafone is confident about the changes.

"The introduction obviously means that there is a drop in revenues, but then there is an upside to it and that is the increase in volume as well. And for all telco's there is the same situation, whereby the drop in rates means a reduction in margins, but definitely a potential increase in volume."
