The Fiji Labour Party has threatened to take legal action if irregularities and anomalies in voter registration for next year's general election are not corrected.
The Labour leader, Mahendra Chaudhry, says "numerous serious irregularities have been reported in the registration of voters for Indian communal constituencies in breach of the Electoral Act."
Mr Chaudhry says "it seems a deliberate campaign was launched to disenfranchise voters in Indian communal constituencies by omitting to register them altogether or by registering them incorrectly."
He says voters have been assigned to the wrong constituencies and in many cases the disabled and elderly were told that they were not qualified to register because they were not physically fit to queue at the polling stations.
Mr Chaudhry says the voter registration should be re-done no matter what the cost because the errors should not have occurred in the first place.
Mr Chaudhry says he will meet the Electoral Commission next week but would take legal action as a last resort.
