Papua New Guinea's director-general of Higher Education, William Tagis, says an investigation into the recent unrest at the University of PNG has unearthed of a range of causes.

A report into the uprising, which saw students rioting, is now with the Minister for Higher Education.

Many blamed the unrest on student assessments, but Mr Tagis says the investigating committee heard other concerns students and academic staff as well.

"This was a fairly complex unrest. It was not only about the downgrading, or the assessment and the awards system. It's more... it's pretty complex. So we need to work through the documents and try and piece out the main issues."
