Christian Association in Solomons opposes third casino

6:39 am on 3 October 2005

The Solomon Islands Christian Association is opposing any move to have a third casino in the country.

The President, Reverend Eric Takila says the association has always maintained its opposition to casino development and activities in the country since the first one was established.

Reverend Takila told the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation that a survey done in the past indicated that casinos were linked to some of the social problems that are affecting people in Honiara.

The Constantinou Group of Australia who bought the National Arts Gallery, has been demanding that it be issued a casino licence as part of its proposed five-star hotel development.
