The premier of Makira-Ulawa Province in Solomon Islands has been charged with soliciting money under false pretences.

Stevenson Piringisau is accused of making representations to get financial credit.

Mr Piringisau has been released on bail to appear in the Honiara Magistrates Court on the 17th of October.

The allegation relates to an incident in June this year.

Last week, the opposition in Makira-Ulawa province called on the premier to resign over allegations that he harassed a Japanese woman during a recent trip to Tokyo.
