Hawaiian Airlines laments rising price of fuel

9:32 am on 23 September 2005

Hawaiian Airlines says the sky rocketing price of fuel is a very serious problem for the airline industry and the company is doing everything it can to minimize the impact of high fuel costs.

Airline spokesman Keoni Wagner says Hawaiian has a fuel conservation team in place to monitor and explore ways of reducing jet fuel expenses.

The team, made up of representatives of employees and management, is working on 12 different initiatives to save fuel costs.

Wagner says the big issue faced by Hawaiian is that every penny per gallon increase in the price of fuel adds US$1.1 million to the company's bottom line.
