Solomon Islands says the new United Nations Peace Building Commission can draw lessons from the Australian-led intervention force.

The Solomons' Foreign Minister Laurie Chan was contributing to debate at the United Nations in New York over the Peace Building Commission.

Mr Chan says the Commission has a difficult but important role in assisting those countries coming out of conflict situations, to sustain peace, security and economic stability.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation reports Mr Chan as saying the Regional Assistance Mission is a shining example for the commission.
