The chairman of the board at American Samoa's LBJ Hospital, Charles Warren, denies that they've been unco-operative with the Senate over providing financial records.
The Senate Health Committee is issuing subpoenas against the financially-troubled hospital to obtain financial records and get testimony from chief financial officer David Deprin.
The committee reportedly decided on this route after it failed to obtain from the hospital, specific details on payments, costs and other information in order to find out why the hospital continues to face medication shortages.
But Mr Warren says the board only received notice from the senate requesting budget details last week, something which they are working on, along with other key issues.
"We're trying to co-operate fully with the senate and the house because we need them to either approve that ten-million dollar credit facility that the governor's proposing or I believe there's another two-million dollar appropriation that the senate's approved that's in the house under discussion right now. So we have every incentive, and absolutely no disincentive, to co-operate fully. We need these guys to act quickly. We're just about out of time."
