The Morobe provincial governor in PNG is warning people not to take unnecessary risks, after four youths died crossing a mountain range in bad weather.

The National newspaper carries news of the incident last weekend.

The provincial administrator, Manasupe Zurenuoc, said 31 people were attempting to travel from Kabwum to Lae by a bush track over rugged and chilly terrain.

Three youths in the party were frozen to death and one was swept away by a fast flowing river.

The other 27 youths are recovering at a care centre.

Mr Zurenuoc says a team will fly to Kabwum today to attempt to recover the bodies.
